S.A.L.T. Launched Two Major Activities: Book Donation Campaign and Share A Gift This Christmas

As part of the NH*JIPS’ service learning programme for the students, the Save A Life Today (S.A.L.T.) team launched the two major activities that they are going to hold for the first semester; the Book Donation Campaign and the Share a Gift This Christmas. The officers presented their previous projects and their current activities as well, last 10 November 2010 (Wednesday) in the Assembly at the Auditorium.

For the Book Donation Campaign, they intend to donate books to a newly built library situated in Samosir Island in Sumatra. Samosir Island has 131, 549 inhabitants and most of the children undergo a non-formal education. Thus, the organization has decided to work with the Non-Governmental Organization in Sumatra to respond to this need. The students are asked to donate at least one (1) book (preferably written in Bahasa; textbooks, reference materials and story telling books for children ages 5 and up are highly appreciated.)

Secondly, the school wishes to observe the spirit of Christmas through the Share a Gift This Christmas to the kids in Pintu Elok Orphanage. The children from this orphanage do not have their own families, they came from broken homes and some of them were even abandoned by their own parents. Their age ranges from 2 to 22 years old and they came from all over Indonesia like Kalimantan and Sumatera. Each student is asked to prepare and wrap a gift to one of the orphans in Pintu Elok. The amount of the gift is from Rp 25,000 – 30,000.

We do hope that you will support us in these two major activities.

The Organization however, has completed several activities since last year, to wit, S.A.L.T. was able to raise donations (both in kind and cash) for Padang and Tasikmalaya earthquake victims. They have also organized a Cookie Raffle in the last year’s Chinese New Year. The proceeds were donated to fund the destitute children for their educational needs (4 white boards were donated).

What Is S.A.L.T.?

Save a life Today (S.A.L.T.) is an ad hoc student organization, which was created by the Secondary 3 students of Nasional High (AY 2009-2010). It is the first student organization of Nasional High. They were originally concerned about the earthquake that befell Padang on the 30th of September 2009. The organization is now officially made as a long term organization that is committed to help the less fortunate and to reinforce camaraderie and leadership among the students.

We hope to achieve support from larger organizations and from more people. You can also show your support by simplyjoining this group. Everyone's support counts and is appreciated! Get involve. Be socially aware. Promote social responsibility. Join S.A.L.T. at NationalHigh Jakarta School.
